Massachusetts children's book awards march 2007
|
Every June, Salem State College announces their Master List of titles for their Children's Book Award. Miss DiVaio, the Howe-Manning Librarian, distributes the list to all students in grades 4-6. Students reading five or more books from the list are eligible to cast their vote for their favorite in the March election. Salem State College tabulates the votes from all the participating elementary schools and issues a commemorative plaque to the author of the title with the most votes.
In honor of their participation in Salem State's fabulous reading program, Miss DiVaio treats all the students who are eligible to vote to a celebratory snack party. First, the students vote for their favorite Mass. Book Award book, then they enjoy delicious snacks and cake provided by the Middleton PTO. Miss DiVaio also gives students a certificate to honor their reading achievement, as well as an array of prizes. The number of prizes each student receives varies according to the number of books they've read. Students reading all 25 titles receive a special engraved medal, as well as a bounty of fun prizes! This year, one student achieved this incredible feat . . . CONGRATULATIONS AUDREY STEEVES!!
So, get ready Howe-Manning students for another year of AWESOME reading! Look for the new Massachusetts Children's Book Award titles this June! If you start over the summer, you too, may be able to read all 25!
